Anna’s memory is excellent, better than it’s been in a long time, but what she recalls from her childhood is debatable. Her memories are shadowed by a family legacy she isn’t proud of. For years, she’s dreamt of a perfect upbringing and has become unable to distinguish fact from fiction.

Lately, she’s felt like surrendering. Her husband of fifteen years has become a liability. At the end of every day, she’s right back where she started, hoping for the best, holding on, to the little miracles, what her parents referred to as delusions.

One afternoon, she loads her bicycle into the truck and heads to a nearby trail. It’s a ritual she’s repeated many times over the last six months, her escape from the suburban hell she associates with her husband.

When she arrives at her usual stopping point, the stairway to her forest paradise is covered in fog. Something’s not right. The woods have shifted. The air has become a looking glass into the unknown, distorting her view, distorting what she believes to be true. She’s arrived at the intersection of Lexington & 5th and the outskirts of her past…
